Calvin, Gertrude M. (Fishel)
Gertrude M. (Fishel) Calvin, 89, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Center Point, died at Keystone Cedars on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. Services: Noon Thursday at Center Point United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Mike Ellson and Ken Graham. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann (Fred) Peitzman of Torrance, Calif., and Sue (Richard) Harvey of Fishers, Ind.; three grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harold; her parents; three brothers; and a granddaughter.
Gertrude was born May 3, 1920, the daughter of Fred & Lillian Fishel in Marion. She graduated from Alburnett High School in 1938 and married Harold Calvin later that same year. Gertrude worked at Armstrong's Department Store in Cedar Rapids for 18+ years, starting as a clerk and later became the buyer of the China & Gifts Department. Gertrude and Harold farmed near Center Point for many years. They retired and moved to Center Point, and later moved to assisted living in Cedar Rapids in July, 2006.
She was a faithful active lifetime member of Center Point United Methodist Church, the Center Point Historical Society, Order of Eastern Star, Past Matrons, Daughters of the Nile, Center Point Garden Club and a former 4-H leader.
