LOIS SWEETING
Center Point
Lois Ardella Sweeting, 89, of Center Point, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Dec. 13, 2016. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Center Point United Methodist Church. Burial: Center Point Cemetery.
Lois was born March 20, 1927, in Palo, Iowa, the daughter of Harry J. and Myrtle (Rehder) Vogt. She graduated from Shellsburg High School. Lois married Ervin Roy Sweeting in Center Point on April 22, 1945. She was head cook at Center Point School and retired in 1988.
Lois was a member of Center Point United Methodist Church since 1945 and a member of United Methodist Women. She was very active in the church, serving many different roles, including teaching Sunday school and helping with church suppers.
Lois had a love for baking and was famous for her sweet rolls. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and traveling. People knew Lois was a great seamstress. She had fun gambling, playing bingo and going to antique car shows as well.
Lois was a sincere and kind soul. She was a wonderful friend, listener and caretaker, who loved her family, as well as the holiday seasons.
Lois is survived by her children, Nancy (Darrel) Kluck of Center Point, Darwin (Linda) Sweeting of Center Point, Amiee (Leon) Hynson of Shellsburg and Cynthia (Kendall) Wiegand of Urbana; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Buelah "Boots" Esposito
of California; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin (1994); three brothers; and four sisters.
