Margaret A. Travis, 93, of Mercer Island, Wash., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her son and family, on Jan. 25, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 11, at Oakshade Cemetery in Marion.
Margaret was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Harry and Ruth (Junkins) Lambertsen. Margaret married Frank Travis on March 17, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. She attended Cornell College and worked briefly at Collins Radio while her husband was serving overseas. Margaret and Frank lived in Brazil for many years before moving back to the U.S. in 1979. During her time in Brazil, she worked for many charities supporting both Strangers Hospital and the Union Church of Rio de Janeiro. They traveled extensively and made many friends all over the world with whom she stayed in contact over the years.
While in Brazil, they were members of the Iate Clube of Rio de Janeiro and the Women's Auxiliary. In Bellingham, she was member of Squallicum Yacht Club and Bellingham Yacht Club, the U.S. Navy League, Mount Baker MG Club and the Republican Party.
She is survived by her brother, Ellis and family; her son, Steven (wife Suzanne); and her granddaughters, Stephanie (McQuillen), Jennifer and Christina; and great-grandson, Sam McQuillen.
She was preceded in death (in 2006) by her husband of 63 years, Frank Travis.
