Suzette (Rockafellow) Zoll, 64, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a recent illness. Visitation and rosary service: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Rosary service will begin at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at St. Matthew Catholic Parish, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Steve Garner will officiate. Family burial will be in Guttenberg at a later date.
Suzette was born Feb. 5, 1953, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Irving and Rose Marie (Boyle) Rockafellow. She graduated in 1971 from Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa. On Aug. 22, 1981, Suzette married Joe Zoll at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. She was the first female journeyman electrician in Cedar Rapids and traveled with her husband working throughout the country, including Massachusetts, New York, California and Hawaii. She retired from IBEW Local 405. Suzette and her husband, Joe, owned and operated Boston Fish Restaurant and Market for the last 25 years. She loved animals, especially her three dogs, Dora, Murphy and her rescue dog, Zoey.
Suzette enjoyed cooking and in her free time she loved to go to Guttenberg, where they would golf and spend time at their cabin.
Suzette is survived by her husband, Joe Zoll; stepson, Zach Zoll of May Pearl, Texas; grandson, Travion Zoll; father, Irving Rockafellow of West Branch; siblings, Lynn Apel of Fort Myers, Fla., Patrick (Novelette) Rockafellow of Iowa City, Ramona (Charles) Eckermann of Fort Myers, her twin, Paulette (Terry) Jones of Bradenton, Fla., Michael Rockafellow of Iowa City, Kathleen (Dave) Link of Iowa City, Tim (Kim) Rockafellow of Williamsburg, Tom Rockafellow of Iowa City, Mary Rockafellow of Iowa City, Jack Rockafellow of Colorado, and Bill (Amie) Rockafellow of Iowa City; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Zoll; brothers-in-law, Mike and Ed (Alice) Zoll; and sister-in-law, Lisa (John) Dodds.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Marie; and her youngest brother, Todd Alan.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used toward a smoking cessation program or to a local animal shelter.
