Griffin, Lee W.
Lee W. Griffin, 93, formerly of Marion, and a resident of Cottage Grove Place, died there Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011. Funeral services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Chaplain Joe Kane. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home. Burial: Salem Cemetery in Van Horne.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Vincent) Iannone of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Dominic (Alexandra) Iannone of Des Moines and Nicole Iannone of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; and a great-grandson, Rowan.
Lee was born Sept. 7, 1917. His mother died when he was an infant and he was raised by Herman and Edna Griffin in Vinton. He graduated from Vinton High School in 1935. From 1941 to 1945, Lee served with the U.S. Army, including 28 month overseas in Ireland, Africa, Sicily, and Italy. On June 29, 1952, he married Dorothy Blue. She died March 20, 1988. Lee worked at Rockwell Collins as an electronics technician for 30 years before retiring in 1982.
Lee was a member of Marion American Legion Post 298.
