Langton, Lowell Lee
Lowell Lee Langton passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy on Oct 26, 2010, after a battle with cancer. Per Lee's wishes there will be no services. A memorial service will take place on Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1735 11th St. NW, Cedar Rapids.
Lee was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Roy and Hazel (Corn) Langton. Lee had four sons, Kenneth (Sue) from Colorado, Kevin (Gina) from California, Thomas and friend “Cat” from California and Steven from Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Jocelyn from Florida and Jennah from Van Horne.
Lee had worked at Allis Chalmers until sold. He continued employment with Harnischfeger until the company left Cedar Rapids in 1989. He then did various jobs, including delivering products around the state and driving school bus until final retirement in 2004 when Betty also retired. They enjoyed going on cruises, especially the Panama Canal. Lee was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, holding many offices through the years. His favorite was The Ritual. He traveled throughout the state with son Steven reciting the Ritual. He has won many awards at convention for his participation.
Lee is survived by his wife, Betty (Hartman), who he married Aug. 10, 1957; a sister, Ernestine (Tine) Chapel from California; sisters-in-law, Georgia and Shirley Langton; along with many nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Howard and Glen.
Special thanks go to a very special friend who came at least once every day to visit Lee. Thank you, Duane, Thank you. Other special thanks go to the hospice team at the hospice house. They were exceptional, even if Lee was a little “crotchety.” He did appreciate all you have done.
Lee's wishes are for any memorials to be directed to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Diabetes Research Center.
