Michel, Marvin G.
Marvin G Michel, 91, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 20, 2012, in Mission Viejo, Calif. Private services will be held at a later date by the immediate family. Marv donated his body to science, a formal burial will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his children, Mel Tremonti, Tom Michel, Rex Michel, Julie Michel and Mary Michel; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Baumgartner.
He was born in Springbrook, Iowa, and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marv moved his family moved to southern California to leave the cold winters behind. He had many professions but the one he enjoyed most was tinkering to make something work again.
An avid bowler and Angel's fan, Marv spend many pleasant days in his retirement enjoying both. He loved to spend time in Las Vegas but always claimed his wife, Maxine (Mickey) was really the lucky one.
Marv was a World War II Navy veteran who personally witnessed the final days of the war in Europe. He never learned to swim and thankfully was on shore leave when his LST boat was sunk.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maxine (Gerber) Michel, they are holding hands again once more. He is now in heaven with his beloved wife and two sons, Pat and Duane.
