Norma R. Coy, 91, of Shellsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Living Center East in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Pastor Joe Polzin officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
Memorials may be directed to a veteran or cancer charity of the donor's choice.
Norma was born May 16, 1924, in Vinton, to Thomas F. and Lulu M. (Pruett) Mullinex. She graduated from high school and nursing school. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Coy on Nov. 1, 1941. Bill preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2004.
Norma was first and foremost a dedicated farm wife. She also worked as a nurse at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for many years. She also was an accomplished musician. She played by ear and was self-taught on the organ, accordion, guitar, harmonica and drums.
Norma is survived by her sisters, Imogene Shoemaker and June Breedlove; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Evadean Derifield; and her brothers, Neal, Thurley and Duane.
