Betty Lou Humphrey, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Mercy Iowa City.
Betty was born Oct. 20, 1929, in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Mildred (Voss) Cox. She graduated from North English High School in 1947. On May 28, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Gene Humphrey at the Methodist parsonage in Ladora. She and Bob made their home in Louisiana and Texas before returning to Cedar Rapids to raise their family.
After Bob's retirement, they moved to Arizona and returned to North English in 2005. In November 2014, she became a resident of English Valley Care Center. Betty was a member of the North English Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, needlework, crafting and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughters, Sue (Tom) Brownlee of West Des Moines and Martha (Rick) Auman of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Matthew Auman, Mallory (Jake) Moore, Phillip, Parker and Wendy Brownlee.
She was preceded by her parents; husband, Bob; two brothers, Clifford "Ted" and William "Bill" Cox; and a sister, Shirlee Schladetzky.
Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in North English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to English Valley Care Center.
