Jean LeClair Pavelka, 91, of Martelle, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Jean was born July 1, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Collis and Marjorie (Drew) Peet. She graduated from Solon High School in 1942 and later Paris Beauty School in Cedar Rapids in 1943.
Jean was united in marriage to James Pavelka on June 5, 1947, in Lisbon. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, retiring as Martelle postmaster in 1986.
Jean enjoyed knitting, ceramics, camping, fishing at Kabetogama Lake in Minnesota, spending winters in Zapata, Texas, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
Jean is survived by her husband of over 68 years, James of Martelle; children, Jeff Pavelka of Grand Marais, Minn., Anthony (Linda) Pavelka of Fairfield Bay, Ark., and Dan (Diann) Pavelka of Lisbon; grandchildren, Sean (Annie) Jensen and Angie (Aaron) Beik; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Kale, Makayla and Miranda.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
