Cooney, Lois M. (Hoyle)

Lois M. (Hoyle) Cooney, 89, passed away June 5, 2012 in the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice at St. Francis Manor. A Memorial Mass will be held June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell.

Lois Mae Hoyle was born November 3, 1922 in Hurley, S.D., the daughter of Earl and Katherine (Kies) Hoyle. She graduated from Marengo High School. She married Joseph L. Cooney on November 8, 1941 in Inglewood, Calif. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. Lois managed a lunch program for seven years. She loved to crochet and found great joy in giving away her projects, especially to children. She also liked working Sudoku puzzles and was a sports fan.

The surviving family include children, Gary (Elaine), Mike (Jade), Emmett (Kristin), Frank (Debbie), Tim (Janine), Jeanette, and Garth (Della); 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; four children, Kathleen, Patricia, Paul, and a stillborn daughter; and three brothers, David, Guerdon and Jim.

Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or St. Francis Manor.
