ROBERT "BUCKEYE" BRONNEMAN

Robert "Buckeye" Bronneman, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at United Church of Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Carole; two daughters, Pam (Craig) Thompson, Monticello, and Jackie (John) White, Anamosa; four grandchildren, Hannah and Hunter Thompson and Robert and Dalton Wilcox; four brothers, Mike of Anamosa, and Larry (Ellie), James (Katie) and Gary, all of Monticello; and three sisters, Jean Grimm, Tucson, Ariz., Judith (James) Leggett, Urbandale, and Penny (Dean) Ehrisman, Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald; and two sisters, Suzie and Margie.
Robert Lee Bronneman was born June 27, 1941, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Donald and Theresa Ehlts Bronneman. Buckeye graduated from Monticello Community Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he met his future wife, Carole. Robert Bronneman and Carole Noel were married Nov. 15, 1963, in Monticello. Buckeye started working at Energy Manufacturing in 1963. He was employed at Energy for 40 years, with 35 years as a foreman. He retired in 2003.
Buckeye loved Fords from the 1950s. He restored two for himself and helped a friend with another. When he wasn't working on his car, he loved to go fishing in Minnesota, hunt mushrooms in the spring, and watch the Cubs and Hawkeyes.
Buckeye was an avid poker player. He played in area tournaments quite often and had played in the Senior Texas Hold'em Tournament in Las Vegas.
