Merle E. Loney, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Merle was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Sadie (Andrews) Floyd. On June 22, 1946, Merle married Clifford Austin Loney in Marion. Merle worked in food service for 44 years and also as a cook and janitor for the Cedar Rapids School District for 14 years, retiring in 2000.
Merle was a woman of strong faith and a hard worker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and solving word search puzzles.
Merle is survived by her sons, Larry (Donna) Loney of Cedar Rapids and Raymond Loney of Center Point; daughters, Suzette "Suzie" Parks of Belgrade, Mo., Carol Boyd of Cedar Rapids and Gail Bricker of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many
great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Linda) Loney of Baytown, Texas; and sister-in-law, Reiko Floyd of Center Point.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Sadie; husband, Clifford, in 1994; sons, Dwayne "Butch" and Gary Loney; son-in-law, E.L. Parks; daughter-in-law, Teri Loney; brothers, George, Dan, Melvin and Glenn Floyd; and sisters, Elma Wilson, Thelma Davis, Florence Pleyte and Alice McConnell.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church in Merle's memory.
