An Anamosa man died last month when a pipe fell from a clamp, crushing his chest, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has found.
Faron Fritz, 30, died at St. Luke's Hospital after the Feb. 22 accident at a construction site at 3141 Williams Pkwy. SW.
Fritz was working for Ricklefs Excavating of Cedar Rapids when the accident happened. According to the preliminary report released this week by OSHA, Fritz was part of a crew using a clamp-equipped excavator to wrap 18-foot pipes in plastic, then move them about the work area. One pipe came out of the clamp and fell onto Fritz's chest, causing a fatal crushing injury, the report said.
OSHA's investigation continues, and its report will be updated with inspection results and possible citation information.
