Lee Ann Rose, 66, of Lisbon, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 1, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, with a private family service following. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Lee is survived by her husband of 43 years, Steven; children, Nancy (Jeremy) Hlas of Van Horne, Patricia of Lisbon, Scott (special friend Amber) of Clarence and Brandy Rose of Lisbon; and grandchildren, Katlyn Hlas, Courtney Hlas, Jessica Hines and Scott Rose Jr. Also surviving is a sister, Karel Thurston (special friend Bill) of Naples, Fla.; a brother, Michael Laughton of Kensington, Md.; a brother, Todd (Sherry) Laughton of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and stepmother, Katharine Laughton of Bowie, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a nephew.
Lee was born in Alameda, Calif., on Feb. 13, 1949. She moved many times with her parents since her father was a career Navy aviator. She graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Va., in 1967. She enrolled in Iowa State University and graduated with a bachelor of science in home economics education in May 1971. She met Steve in Ames the summer of 1971 and they were married on Nov. 27, 1971. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1974. They started a family in 1975 and moved to the Lisbon area in 1980. Lee provided child care until Scott started school in 1987. She then worked on getting her teaching certificate renewed. She started substitute teaching and taught at many of the schools in the Cedar Rapids area. She retired from Harding Middle School in Cedar Rapids in June 2011.
Lee was active in bowling, golfing, homemaking and having fun. She once scored a double eagle on hole 4 at the former Hillcrest Country Club (Kernoustie). She also participated in the women's EIGA events and served on the women's golf board. She was also a proud member of a five-couple card group that played cards in the earlier years, but had fun just getting together in the later years.
Memorials may be directed to the Lisbon United Methodist Church Window Fund, 200 E. Market St., Lisbon, IA 52253.
