Janet Aldridge, 72, passed away suddenly Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines, IA 50310. Family will greet guests at noon.
Janet was born in Lisbon, Iowa, on Aug. 17, 1941, to Harold and Virginia Johnson. Throughout her life, she worked various jobs and raised her family. Janet enjoyed going to flea markets, listening to Elvis, gardening, baking and crocheting. She had a love for pets and was known for her willingness to help others in need.
Janet is survived by her children, Joanne (Fred) Sirdoreus and Jerry (Elvira) Hotz; grandchildren, Bonni B. Moyer and Thomas J. Hotz; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Van Aldridge; daughters, Janice B. Moyer and Julie and Jeanne Aldridge; her parents; two sisters; and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or to The Animal Rescue League.
