Violet Kamerling, 100, of Lisbon, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, at her daughter's home. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Lisbon United Methodist Church by Pastor Karen Nelson. Private family burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Survivors include her daughters, Pat (Jim) Sealy of Cedar Rapids and Linda Peiper of Mount Vernon; son, Donald Jr. of Mechanicsville; sister, Donna Arthur of Asheville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sister-in-law, Gwen Bulger of Mechanicsville.
Violet was born Sept. 21, 1915, in rural Cedar County, to Clarence "Major" and Irene (Yeater) Rife. Her parents were neighbors to the Kamerling family, where she found her husband, Donald Kamerling Sr. She became a farm wife and homemaker and also volunteered fundraising for the Cedar County Cancer Society. She enjoyed quilting, baking cinnamon rolls, decorating cakes, cooking and entertaining friends. Most importantly she loved spending time with her beloved family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Sr.; sister, Margaret Kadlec; and brothers, Jim and Clarence Rife.
Violet's family would like to thank UnityPoint Hospice for the generous care given to Violet during her illness.
