Ward, Alyce Marie
Alyce Marie Ward, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness.Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Chaplain Joseph Kane.Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. and after noon Friday at the funeral home.
Alyce is survived by eight children, Dennis (Sharon) of Crossville, Tenn., Bill (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids, James (Gloria) of Englewood, Calif., Robert (Roberta) of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Phil) Jordan of Hiawatha, and Debra (Scott) Schilling, Dawn (Mark) Miller and Donna (Mike) Wolfe, all of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Margaret) Gillick and John (Char) Gillick, both of Cedar Rapids; and brother-in-law, Clyde Bixby of Show Low, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; children, Raymond, Terry and infant son John; and sisters, Margaret Bixby, Catherine Fandrey and Betty Winn.
Alyce was born April 2, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Earl and Gwendolyn (McMeel) Gillick.She graduated from Roosevelt High School.She married William Ward on Sept. 13, 1947, in Cedar Rapids.
Alyce was a wonderful beautiful strong woman who was the mother of 10 children. She never let anything get her down. She always had a smile on her face. Alyce loved to spend time with her grandchildren and visiting with her neighbors. She also enjoyed bowling, watching soap operas, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her dogs, Rocky and Lilly.
She was loved by many and will be truly missed.
