NOEL A. BISHOP
Cedar Rapids
Noel A. Bishop, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Meth-Wick Manor. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family following the service until 7 p.m.
Noel is survived by her daughter, Barbara Van Nevel of Arvada, Colo.; two sons, Gary (Gwen) Bishop of Iowa City and Bruce (Dyann) Bishop of Ely; 12 grandchildren, Mia, Gabe, Nic, Lindsey, Lauren, Alexis, Zach, Madison, Ashley, Michael, Shauna and Chelsea; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother-in-law, Stanley (Betty) Bishop of Coralville; and sister-in-law, (Abbie) Bishop of Charlottesville, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; and her brother.
Noel was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Leon and Gladys Owens Tridle and was married to Keith Bishop on Aug. 1, 1953, in Nebraska City, Neb. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Keith's passing in 2011.
Noel graduated from the Nebraska Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and worked as a registered nurse in Nebraska and Iowa. Later reinventing her career and finding her passion, she taught in the orthopedic assistants program at Kirkwood Community College. Later, always looking for new challenges, Noel managed a new medical supply business which spun into independent sales until her retirement in 1998. As all of her caregivers could tell you, her medical background and knowledge was evident right up to her final days.
We, her children have lost our most loving medical reference. Noel will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
The family wishes to thank all of the physicians and caregivers who took care of Noel over the years, especially the staff at Meth-Wick and UnityPoint Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, a Noel Bishop memorial fund has been established.
