Karen Eileen Kelsey, 68, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at UnityPoint Hospice at UnityPoint Hospital after a lengthy illness. Celebration of Life services will be 5 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A private family inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Karen was born Feb. 17, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Roger Irvin Hammond and Isabel Irene Emerson. She attended Cedar Rapids Washington High School. Karen was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Ross on May 11, 1968, and to this union two children were raised. They later divorced. She was united in marriage to Raymond Lee Kelsey on Aug. 17, 1991. Karen worked at High Tech, Silver Pines, Tru Green – Chem Lawn and Hometown Restyling. She enjoyed watching TV, playing bingo, collecting ink pens and, most of all, spending time with her family and dogs.
Karen is survived by her husband, Ray; her children, Rodney Ross of Cedar Rapids and Sherry (Steve) Adam of Vinton; two grandchildren, Ryan Ross and Luke Ross, both of Cedar Rapids; her niece, Viktorja "Sara" Heires of Cedar Rapids; and stepchildren, Michele Clinton and Martin Kelsey and their children, all of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, James Hammond.
