High-speed police chases not worth it

On March 22 I attended the funeral of a relative, Charles “Chuck” Ganoe. He was the motorcycle driver who was killed as he was chased at high speed by a Linn County Sheriff's deputy. Is this what Iowa citizens pay tax dollars for - a deputy who hasn't enough sense to stop when the cost of “catching” someone is greater than the ticket itself?
In the church, I listened to the memorials of a son without a father, a wife without her husband, and my aunt and uncle who no longer can look into the eyes of their son.
What is the point of chasing speeding vehicles, especially if the chase exceeds a posted speed limit? Don't patrol car video-cams engage once the sirens are turned on? Couldn't a video have provided adequate license plate numbers to find a speeder later on, especially in a small town such as Central City?
There was no discernible reason for this death. Taxpayers, ultimately, pay the salaries of the law enforcement people who are paid to protect our communities. This deputy put more lives in danger. Every single citizen should be angry!
