Esther June Vorel, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour before services on Monday.
Esther was born June 29, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Jasa) Spryncl. Esther married Donald Vorel on June 25, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. They celebrated over 69 years of inseparable love. She worked at Collins Radio for many years until her retirement in 1988.
Esther and Don enjoyed traveling throughout all 50 states, Europe, the Middle East and the Orient. They especially enjoyed traveling in the Holy Lands. Esther volunteered with Don at St. Luke's Hospital and Mercy Medical Center, as well as Indian Creek Nature Center. She was a member of Lodge 13 WFLA, National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library and Cedar Valley Bible Church.
Esther is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins and a sister, Maxine Boyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, on Sept. 30, 2017; and a sister, Ruth.
