Duffy, Shirley Rose
Shirley Rose Duffy, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Tom McDermott. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before the service Friday at the church. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Frank (Joan) Zelezny of Kalispell, Mont., Becky (Kevin) Lodestein of Des Moines, Sherry (Dean) Hanover of Cedar Rapids, and Millie Schrader of Texas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Jeannette McKay of What Cheer; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mabel Rickman; husband, Edwin in 1975; sister, Louise Gatens; and three grandchildren, Ernie Fleming, Michelle Bechtol and Aaron Bensmiller.
Shirley was born April 24, 1929, in Keswick, Iowa. She married Edwin Zelezny in 1946. He died in 1975. She then married Orville Duffy, until his death in 1998.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice in Hiawatha.
