Couple attacked in home
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines authorities say a woman was raped and beaten and a man was pistol-whipped during a home invasion.
The attack on the 21-year-old woman and her 20-year-old companion occurred late Thursday in an apartment near Drake University.
According to police, the couple was in bed shortly after 10:30 p.m. when four men wearing dark clothing and masks entered the apartment. Two of them carried handguns.
The male victim was ordered to remove his pants and the woman was ordered to undress, after which they pushed to the floor and beaten.
The woman said she was sexually assaulted several times by the men.
After the intruders left, the couple ran for help. They were taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Police say nothing was taken from the apartment.
