FREDA "SCOTTIE" LOHNES
Cedar Rapids
Freda (Scott) "Scottie" Lohnes, daughter of the late Lewis and Vada (Gibson) Scott, passed away at home on Feb. 22, 2017. She was born in Nenzel, Neb., in 1925. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Dr. John Lohnes, in 2007.
Scottie and John moved to Sanibel Island, Fla., in 1987, when he retired from his radiology practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She maintained a condo in Cedar Rapids until the middle of last year.
Scottie received her RN certification from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and earned a subsequent Bachelor of Science degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids as an RN before moving to Sanibel.
Scottie was a member of Sanibel Community Church, PEO Chapters HJ and FV and DAR Charles Trumbull Hayden Chapter of Tempe, Ariz.
Scottie was strong in her Christian faith and active in her church. She shared her gift of hospitality by warmly welcoming all into her home. Scottie enjoyed hosting a weekly Bible study in her home, which she did for many years. She loved the wisdom of Biblical truths, which she shared with and prayed for her family and others. Scottie was the heart and the keystone of her family. Her sense of humor remains alive and well, having been passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Scottie is survived by a brother, Claude Scott of Jupiter, Fla.; a daughter, two sons and seven grandchildren: John Jr. (Tammie), and their sons, John III and Christopher Lohnes, of Wichita, Kan., Janet (Marty), and their children, Katie, Brian, Matthew and Benjamin Knake, of Cedar Rapids; and Joel (Sandy) and his daughter, Olivia Lohnes, of Sanibel.
A private family service was held.
A memorial has been established with Sanibel Community Church Local Missions, 1740 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957.
Thanks, Mom. Job well done. Love always.
