Meroshek, Charlotte Olga Pavelka
Charlotte Olga Pavelka Meroshek, 94, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church by the Rev. John Flaherty. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a vigil service starting at 7 p.m., at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Charlotte will be buried at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, rural Solon.
Surviving Charlotte are two daughters, Janet (Darwin) Wikert of Hampton and Pauline (Stephen) Erickson of Spring Park, Minn.; grandchildren, Scott (Wendy) Wikert, Jerrod (Brandi) Wikert, Laurie (Shane) Jacobson, Stephen II (Jennifer) Erickson and Alex Erickson (Nicole Christensen); great-grandchildren, Paige and Dillon Jacobson and Jayde and Dawson Wikert; and special nieces and nephews.
Preceding Charlotte in death were her parents; and husband, Bill who passed away in December 1998.
Charlotte was born Aug. 26, 1919, to Joseph and Anna Zinkula Pavelka on the Zinkula/Pavelka Heritage family farm in rural Solon. She attended grade school at Pleasant Hill country school, rural Linn County and Mount Mercy School in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1937. She married William “Bill” Meroshek at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Solon, in 1942. The couple farmed all their lives.
She was a devoted and active member of the former Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Solon and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon.
Charlotte was a wonderful cook and very devoted to her husband and daughters and grandchildren.
A memorial fund in Charlotte's honor has been established.
