CHARLES "CHUCK" WELSH
Cedar Rapids
Charles Welsh, 83, passed away Jan. 3, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Chuck was born Feb. 18, 1931, to Jerome and Maude Welsh in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Navy from 1948 to 1952. On Oct. 21, 1956, Chuck was united in marriage to Patricia Pavek. They had two children, Kathy (Kevin) Willis of Cedar Rapids and Kenny Welsh of California; three grandchildren, Michelle (Billy) Frazier, Steven (Jenny) Welsh and Magic (deceased); and five great-grandchildren, Kadaris, Kaysiah, Adalynne, Brayleigh and Kaiyn.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dorothy Nasinec, Evelynne Bierkamp, Jane Kramer and Bob Welsh; and several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pat; and his sister, Lois (Maury) Curtis.
Chuck was employed at Smulekoff's for 60 years in sales and as the sales manager.
He loved doing crossword puzzles. His pride and joy were his flowers. He had a prolific green thumb. Chuck enjoyed the many projects that sprang from his artistic and creative talent.
In lieu of flowers, send memorials to your favorite charity in Chuck's name.
There will be a celebration of Chuck's life on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Longbranch from 4 to 7 p.m. At Chuck's request, there will be no other service.
