Jim enjoyed his dogs, not only as his pets, but also competing with them in numerous dog shows around the country for many years, which brought him much respect and recognition in the field.
His family includes his life partner, Tim Robinson of Washington; parents, Sharon and Don McCombs of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, John M. Dearth of Cedar Rapids; sister, Jennifer Lachance of Augusta, Ga.; and his father, John E. Dearth of Albany, Ohio.
A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be shared with the American Heart Association and a dog rescue organization to be determined later.
