Hlas Podcast with Frank Deford

Sep. 19, 2012 11:04 am
The renowned sports writer was in Iowa City recently to interview people for an HBO "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" story on Caroline Found, who died in a moped accident in August 2011. Found was a stellar setter on Iowa City West's 2010 state-championship volleyball team.
Caroline was an extremely charismatic girl who has had a lasting influence on her team and school. Deford looks at how the West community remembers her, and how the volleyball team rallied to again win the state title in 2011.

The "Real Sports" episode with the Deford piece will premiere on Oct. 23, with several repeats in the following weeks.
I generally don't link to my podcasts on this blog because we don't want duplication, since there is a box on the right side of the Hlog's home page to click on the podcasts. I'm still just getting my feet wet when it comes to podcasting, but we've had some good guests since I started. Included were Iowa broadcaster Ed Podolak, Las Vegas sports-betting expert R.J. Bell, comedian Scott Long, UNI broadcaster Gary Rima, and Tom Kakert of Hawkeyereport.com. Click on each name to go their respective podcast.
My goal is to offer something different to TheGazette.com's site, interviews of 20 to 30 minutes with people I think you'll find interesting. If you have suggestions for people you would like to see me try to get for the podcast, I welcome them.
