FREDRICK "RICK" GIENAPP

Fredrick "Rick" Gienapp, 66, of Monticello, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Urbana. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, with a vigil starting at 4 p.m., at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Rick was born Oct. 2, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa, to Donald "Toby" and Helen Gienapp. He attended Manchester High School, before enlisting with the Marine Corps in 1968. Rick served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. He married Barbara Emmons on March 20, 1971, in Corona, Calif. They later divorced but remained close friends. Rick retired from Linn Co-op in 2012.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Gienapp; former spouse, Barbara Babcock; daughter, Amy (Nick) Johnson; sons, Corey (Angie Keister) Gienapp and Brent Gienapp; sisters, Judy Morley, Jackie Strand, Jane (Joe) Buelna and Julie Brown; brother, Martin (Diane) Gienapp; and grandchildren, Morgan, Haley, Abigail, Toby and Nadalie.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Donald "Toby" Gienapp.
Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors. He loved to camp, hunt, fish and trap shoot. Rick also enjoyed his trips to Arizona.
