JANET LEHR
Marion
Janet Bauer Lehr, 84, joined her beloved husband, Charles "Chuck" in heaven on Feb. 29, 2016. She was a resident of Linn Manor Care Center in Marion. Following her request, she was cremated and she and her husband will be buried at Millersburg Cemetery with the rest of her family. Visitation will be at Powell Funeral Home in Williams-burg on Saturday, March 5, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Powell Funeral Home. www.powellfuneralhomes.com
Janet was born July 19, 1931, the daughter of Vernon and Mildred Bauer in Millersburg, Iowa. After graduating from Millersburg High School, she attended American Institute of Business in Davenport and played basketball for one year on its team. Jan reported that was the most fun and interesting experience of her college years. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1954. Her master's degree was completed at the University of Northern Iowa. She taught for 20 years at Grundy Center High School. It was there that she met her husband. They were married in Ackley, Iowa, on Nov. 26, 1957, and enjoyed life together for 55 years before Chuck's passing.
Golf was Janet's passion. After retirement, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., and later to Sun City, Las Vegas, where they lived for 19 years. She was an active member of Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and two brothers, Charles and William Bauer.
She is survived by a sister, Joan Bouslog of Marion; a brother, Philip Bauer of Decatur, Ill.; and nieces and nephews, Jim Bouslog (Cindi Rudish), Sue Dawson (Bill), Jeff Bouslog (Shawn), Scott Bouslog, Mary Wildes (Warren) and Robert Stevens (Pat); and three special friends, Debra Tharp of Marshalltown and Janis Lunde and Merrilu Sloboda of Las Vegas, Nev.
Jan was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend. We all will miss her wonderful sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
