Russell, Mary A. (Pospisil)
Mary A. (Pospisil) Russell, 93, a resident of Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, and longtime resident of Mount Vernon and Prairieburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, by Father Wayne Droessler. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. A vigil service will begin at 4 p.m. and a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Prairieburg.
Survivors include six sons, Dennis (Patsy) Russell of Prairieburg, Ralph (Kathy) Russell of Cedar Rapids, Maurice (Mardi) Russell of Panora, Norman (Carol) Russell of Cedar Rapids, John (Cindy) Russell of Ames, and David (Lori) Russell of Ankeny; a sister, Betty Wolfe; brother, Paul Pospisil; sister-in-law, Evelyn Russell; 14 grandchildren, Carl, Eric, Jason, Cathy, Jon, Katie, Jill, Tana, Mary Beth, Nathan, Garrett, Elliott, Jenna and Kelsey; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brothers, Phil, Joseph “Bub,” and Robert; sisters, Agnes, Stella, Eleanor and Helen; and two grandsons, Mark and Jared.
Mary was born July 2, 1918, the daughter of Joseph F. and Marie J. (Drahos) Pospisil, near Bertram, Iowa. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1935. On June 10, 1943, she married Richard C. Russell at St. John's Catholic Church in Lisbon. She and her husband, “Dick” were longtime farmers in the Mount Vernon and Prairieburg areas. Mary was a member of the St. Joseph's Altar and rosary Society and the Hills Mills Club. Mary dedicated her life to her husband and family. She greatly loved her family, giving all, and asking so little. She will be missed by all.
Memorial funds may be directed to the family or St. Joseph's Cemetery in Prairieburg in Mary's memory.
