Albert L. Downs, 66, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Christine Jeannette Downs; his daughter, Amber D. Downs of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Clarence E. (Betty) Downs of Cedar Rapids and E. Darlene (Rodger) Zeien of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Also surviving is his beloved cat, Cledus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Albert McDonough; brother, Roy Allen Downs; sister, Elizabeth Clower; nephew, Michael R. Wolf; and his cats, Bandit and Smokey.
Albert was born March 14, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Clarence and Virginia (Akers) Downs. He married Christine Jeannette Prochaska on July 28, 1974, in Cedar Rapids.
Albert retired as a driver for Century Cab. He started the Jesus Cares Mission and was a minister for several years. He brought many people to Jesus and was a Bible scholar.
He enjoyed reading, playing the lottery, slot machines, camping and science fiction. He also was an artist and loved to draw and paint.
He was a friend to all and helped anyone in need.
