The elevator in the parking lot entrance to the passenger terminal lobby at The Eastern Iowa Airport will not be available for more than a week.
Pam Hinman, airport director of marketing and communications, said the elevator in the 'collector” area will be shut down from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Oct. 27. The airport is encouraging passengers or visitors who need to use the elevator to enter the terminal to use the entrance along the terminal drive.
Skycaps will be available to assist with free valet parking. If Skycaps are not available, passengers or visitors can call the Airport Information Center at (319) 362-8336 or the Airport Public Safety office at (319) 731-5722 for assistance.
Airport staff also will be on hand during peak travel periods at the terminal's parking lot entrance to assist passengers and visitors.
Hinman said the temporary elevator closure is because of work on the airport's $50 million terminal modernization project. The interior and exterior renovation project, which began in 2014, includes improved energy efficiency and upgraded amenities. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2019.
The four-year project will be completed without incurring new debt, increasing costs for tenants or passengers, or accepting city or county tax revenue.
