Video Sessions — Safety issues
Marc Morehouse
Jun. 18, 2014 9:29 pm
The first part is Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz talking about Iowa's newest coaching hire Seth Wallace, who'll be recruiting coordinator and a defensive assistant. Flexibility for Wallace to travel is a key, Ferentz said.
At around 2:57, the talk about incoming freshmen needing to help at safety begins.
At 4:10, Ferentz discusses off-field problems. Iowa has had three legal run-ins since summer conditioning began June 2.
5:05 Ferentz talks about newly minted free safety Jordan Lomax.
And then at 5:35, more on the incoming freshmen defensive backs (there are five).
6:35 Ferentz is asked about possible eligibility issues and passes on comment about DE Torey Hendrick. (NCAA rules dictate that a coach can't comment on an unsigned player. Hendrick hasn't signed to play at Iowa.)
Also, strong safety John Lowdermilk talks about the position and it's possible issues with depth.
At 3:45, Lowdermilk announces that he's late for a film study session with the defense. That practice started last season and every player on the 2013 defense credited this with helping turn the unit around. Lowdermilk said attendance is very good at these things, as in everyone participates.
