Marvin Leo Smith, 85, of Marion, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Linn Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Hillside Wesleyan Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be private at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Marvin was born on Nov. 18, 1932, the son of Lyle Clifford and Thelma Mae (Johnston) Smith. He married Mary Jane Rhone, the love of his life, on Sept. 24, 1955, in Des Moines. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, but most of all loved spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall Smith; grandson, Brady Smith; and brother, Ronald Smith.
Left to cherish Marvin's memories are his wife, Mary Jane Smith; three children, James (Sheri) Smith of Swisher, Kurt Smith of Fort Collins, Colo., and Susan (Marlyn) Ling of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, Aricca Smith, Desiree Chambers, Andria Smith and Alex Ling; great-grandchild, Faith Turner; and sister, Loretta Larsen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hillside Wesleyan Church or a charity of your choice in Marvin's name.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Linn Care Manor of Marion, Iowa, for the great care of Marvin Smith.
