Krotz, Mary Grace

Mary Grace Krotz, 88, of Solon, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Solon.

A memorial fund to Iowa City Hospice has been established.

Mary was born May 24, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Irene Smith. She was raised on the family farm in rural Harper. Mary later moved to Iowa City, where she met and married the late, Leonard Krotz on July 24, 1959. She and Leonard operated L & M Sinclair service station for many years. They sold the business and began working at Iowa City Volkswagen for Gene Greb. When Leonard retired Mary began working at ACT in Iowa City part time as a forms processor during testing time.

Mary enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, gardening and all types of outdoor activities. She also was an avid cake decorator, painter and seamstress. She and Leonard especially enjoyed spending winters in Texas where they meet many wonderful friends from all over the country.

Mary was very close to her seven children and 18 grandchildren. She loved seeing her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Richard) Rogers, Brenda (Gene) Greazel, Danette (Steve) Foster, JoAnn (the late Donald) Marshall, all of Solon and Ellen (Mike) Davis of Donnellson; sons, Brett Krotz of Solon and Richard Krotz of North Liberty; her three sisters, Shirley (Don) Steffen, Ellen (Frank) Hicks and Sherry Mather; and a brother, Jim (Cheryl) Smith.
