Eleanor Heskje, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at the The Meth-Wick Community on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, after a long illness.
(Please note services and visitation dates have
been changed because of predicted inclimate weather.) Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be 4 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 7 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
She is survived by her sisters, Marilyn Scott and Mary (Clyde) Smith; her brother, James Heskje; her nieces and nephews, Marsha (Paul) Sabotta, Jenine (Mark) Anderson, Brian (Karen) Scott, Brad (Jean) Scott, Michael (Susie) Scott, Karen (Mark) Harapat, Dan Smith, Matthew (Summer) Smith, Jenny (Mark) Marovich, Kim (Gary) Whiting, Jim (Sharon) Heskje, Eric (Josie) Heskje and Ryan Heskje (Margie); 14 grandnieces, 19 grand-nephews and a great-grandniece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Ruth and T.J. Heskje; and her brother, Richard Heskje.
Eleanor received her education at St. Patrick's School, Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and the State University of Iowa. She was a labor and delivery nurse at Mercy Hospital for most of her career. She also worked for three years at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis., and as an instructor in nursing education at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.
She enjoyed music, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling with friends and family. She was active in her parish, St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She will be remembered as a beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
The family would like to thank The Meth-Wick Community, (Arbor Place and The Woodlands) for the wonderful care she received there.
