Jack Thomas Summers, 70, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Private family burial: North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carol; sons, Justin (Cherish) Summers of Marion and Jason Summers of Marion; four grandchildren, Kaylee and Sydney Herman and Lincoln and Liberty Summers; brother, Wilbur Jr. (Carol) Summers of Auburndale, Fla.,; sisters, Deloris Griffee of Providence, R.I., Darlene (Jack) Montgomery of Duncombe, Iowa, and Diane Summers (Darrell Hoover) of Catoosa, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jack was born Nov. 1, 1945, in Fort Dodge, to Wilbur Sr. and Margaret (Ekstrom) Summers. He attended Central Webster Burnside High School, graduating in 1963. In 1964, he joined the Navy. He retired after 23 years of service. On July 16, 1966, he married Carol Armstrong in Fort Dodge. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. He also attended Iowa Central Community College. He became a construction inspector for the Department of Transportation and retired after 36 years. He enjoyed fishing and collecting antiques.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; and an infant brother.
