Former Cyclone and Penn State wrestler long charged with rape

Aug. 13, 2011 10:45 pm
According to the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa., former Iowa State NCAA runner-up Andrew Long, a multi-time state champion for Creston-Orient/Macksburg, was charged with rape Friday. The article cited court records, highlighting the charges for rape, criminal attempt of rape and indecent assault. Reportedly the alleged victim was unconscious at the time.
The 22-year-old Long posted bail and was released. Long transferred Penn State after the first semester of last season. He was a Big Ten champion at 133 pounds, placing third at the NCAA Championships in March as the Nittany Lions won Big Ten and NCAA tournament team titles.
Long experienced trouble at Iowa State, having a pair of alcohol related offenses with law enforcement in Ames. He was the 125-pound NCAA runner-up in 2010, but was suspended from the team months later. Long was working his way back on the team when he left for State College and was released from his scholarship by the Cyclones.
