Cedar Rapids school district names new Executive Director of Special Services

The Cedar Rapids school board of approved Sheila Lehman as Executive Director of Special Services. She will begin her duties on July 1, replacing Suzanne Blomme who is retiring.
Lehman has extensive background in special education, having taught in several disability areas and served as an educational consultant in both Iowa and Wisconsin. She joined the district in 2001 as a curriculum facilitator and has served for six years as the Associate Director of Special Services.
Lehman earned her Bachelor's Degree in special education from Loras College, a Masters Degree from UNI, and an Educational Specialist in Educational Administration from Drake University.
“I was pleased to have the opportunity to interview three highly-qualified candidates for this position,” Superintendent Dave Benson said. “I am confident that Shelia will provide outstanding leadership in continuing the development of District's Special Services Department.”
“I am very honored to be given the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and families of our district in my new role,” Lehman said. “I look forward to continuing the good work in which our division is already engaged with an emphasis on collaboration and excellence for all.”
Lehman will earn an annual salary of $122,145.
