Cecil Robert Perkins, 89,
of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at the Gardens of Cedar Rapids after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. followed by a vigil service on Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family until 7 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Cecil is survived by his son, Robert (Lynette) Perkins; daughter, Mary Perkins; granddaughters, Kimberly and Sarah Perkins, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Shirley Schoon of Anamosa; brother, Jack McDonald of Greene; sister-in-law, Margaret Kenney; and sister-in-law, Blanche Oujiri, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, in 2014; and his sisters, Betty Smith, Jean Wessels and Esther Seehusen.
Cecil was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Monticello, the son of Emert and Hazel Streets Perkins. He married Katherine Oujiri on May 2, 1953, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Cecil was a tool and die maker for many years, retiring in 1993.
Cecil was very talented. He was a Mr. Fix-It and a master in woodworking and an artist. He enjoyed traveling, photography, going to the casino, going on car rides, feeding the geese and gardening in his flower beds. Cecil was a gentle man, soft-spoken and always had a smile and a wave. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
