Letter: Democrats switched position on taxes

I recall an Iowa congressional race back around 1980 or 1982 where the Republican candidate said he always paid some taxes whether he had to or not. The Democrats called him stupid for not taking advantage of the tax laws to reduce his taxes as much as possible.
The chiding may have been because one of the Dems was discovered to have paid no taxes on a gross income of around $2 million.
Maybe Roxanne Conlin or Lynn Cutler can remember the details.
