Vanourny, Robert E.
Robert E. Vanourny, 91, of Swisher, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Blain Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Robert was born June 1, 1922, in rural Solon, on what is now Sandy Beach Road, the son of Charley and Mary (Dolezal) Vanourny. He married Irma Stanek on Aug. 5, 1944, near Ely. Robert and Irma farmed all their lives near Swisher. Robert worked for over 39 years at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids until his retirement in 1984.
They enjoyed polka dances, fishing and going to Waterville, Minn., in the summers.
Robert is survived by his son, Robert J. of Swisher; a sister-in-law, Irene Ziskovsky of Swisher; two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Vanourny on March 27, 2005; a sister, Mary (Ed) Zachar; and a brother, Charles S. Vanourny.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to donor's choice of charity.
