Oakley "Oak" W. Sickels, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; son, David (Angie) Sickels of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jodi (Larrell) De Jong of New Prague, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Leah; and a great-grandson.
Oakley Wayne Sickels was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Waukon Junction, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Bessie (Thorpe) Sickels. Oakley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Aug. 11, 1956, he married Joyce Martin in Nashua. He worked as a machinist for 27 years at Quaker Oats.
