John Howard Cavalier "Casper," 75, of Walker, passed away from esophageal cancer on his own terms at his home on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. John was surrounded by his loving wife and caregiver, Sandy, and family.
John was born July 3, 1940, in Walhalla, N.D., to Samuel and Matilda (Jerome) Cavalier. After serving in the Army from 1961-1964, John moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked for Long View Fiber from 1966-2006. He was married to the love of his life, Sandy (Miller).
He leaves behind his wife, Sandy; four sons, Kelly (Molly) of Fairfax, Bobby (Rose) Warren of Shawano, Wis., Doug (Danette) of Walker and David (Misty) of Walker; four daughters, Margie (Mark) Sperfslage of Urbana, Tanya Miller (Tim) of Shawano, Wis., Jessi (Curtis) Frazier of Cedar Rapids and Beth Cavalier of Cedar Rapids; his 20 grandchildren, Daryl, Aaron, Cory, Faithe, Nathan, Madison, Austin, Robert III, Dakota, Brooke, Jacob, Taylor, Tatum, Tori, Deshawn, Melique, Tamara, Daquan, CeJay and Naomi; his seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Syerra, Kellen, Josiah, Robert IV, Peyton and Asher; his brother, Sam (Pat) of Sacramento, Calif.; and his beloved dog, Gizzy.
John was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and one brother.
Per John's wishes, there will be no funeral services.
A special message from John to his wife: "I will meet you in heaven at the gates with all the tribe right behind me."
