John E. "Jack" Linder, 84, of Oelwein, died Friday morning, May 4, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post No. 9. Inurnment: at a later date.

John Edward Linder was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of George Charles and Rachel (Witkin) Linder. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1952 and Upper Iowa University in 1957. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Sept. 23, 1961, he was united in marriage to Echo Beth Phyllis Peterson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Jack owned Oelwein Bottling Works from 1968 to 1972, then worked at OCCO Feeds and finally fulfilling his lifelong dream of teaching at Oelwein Community Schools. Following his retirement, Jack continued to substitute teach and to be a private tutor.
Jack is survived by his four children, Dorsey Herman of Cedar Falls, Joe Nolan of Oelwein, Natalie (Chris) Conner of Salem, Va., and Donald (Neil Boudreaux) Linder of Marion; daughter-in-law: Carol Nolan of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
