Betty Jane Remley died at the Anamosa Care Center on June 26, 2018.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Anamosa. A private family committal service will be held at another time. Her family will receive friends at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, as well as at the church after the memorial service.

Born to Paul E. Levsen and Sudah Cohoon Levsen at Cedar Rapids in 1917, she attended the Wyoming, Iowa, schools and Coe College, where she earned a bachelor of music degree in 1939. Betty was a member of Delta Delta Delta at Coe.

On July 5, 1941, Betty married Howard Marshall Remley. Three children were born to them: David (Betsy) Remley, Jane (James) Rasley and Nancy (Harry) Remley-Whiteley. She also is survived by seven grandchildren: Leslie (Mike) Wolfe, Tyler (Christie) Remley, Brandon (Liz) Rasley, Stuart (Lisa) Rasley, Kristina (Robert) Carlton, Daniel (Maggie) Whiteley and Adam (Kate) Whiteley; eight great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Dr. Harry Whiteley.

She was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Nancy Remley-Whiteley; and her sister, Helen Roberts.

Betty taught music at Nora Springs and Elkader and continued her love of music by directing the church choir at the First Congregational Church for 60 years, where she was a member. She established a Junior Choir and a Cherub Choir at the church. She also established a Community Choir, which is still in existence. In addition, she accompanied high school vocal students.

She was devoted to her family and friends and served as a Cub Scout den mother and Camp Fire leader. She was a member of PEO and was active in many local organizations. She enjoyed golf and bridge and was a Hawkeye fan attending almost all home football games for over 50 years and watching others on TV. In addition, she was a loyal Hawkeye basketball fan, both men and women. She was a Cub fan and could name the starting lineup up to her last days.
