Charlotte Clare Sass, 93, of Iowa City, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015, at Crestview Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at Newman Catholic Student Center with Father

Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at the Newman Center. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice c/o Mercy Foundation or to Crestview Care Center.

Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service.

Charlotte was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Hungary, the daughter of Charles and Margaret Szabody Papp. She was united in marriage to Stephen Sass on March 29, 1948, in Hungary. The family was forced to escape from Hungary to the United States during the 1956 Revolution.

Charlotte was an accomplished pianist and teacher of mathematics in Hungary. The family moved in 1961 from Ohio to Iowa City, where Stephen was on the University of Iowa College of Law faculty.

Charlotte was a loving, caring and compassionate person. Her whole life revolved around her family. She will be greatly missed.

The family extends their thanks to the staff of Crestview Care Center for the great care and the love Charlotte received while living there.

Charlotte is survived by two children, Judith (Robert) Boyd and Thomas (Debbie) Sass, both of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Adam (Angela) Henn and Stephanie Henn; three stepgrandchildren, Casey, Molly and Kelly Boyd; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor Boyd, Natalie Henn, Olivia Henn, McKenna Boyd and Ryan Boyd.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stephen, in 1999; and her sister, Rose.
