Weseman, Henry A. 'Hank'
Henry A. “Hank” Weseman, 93, of Olin, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at Silvercrest of Anamosa. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Olin Community United Methodist Church, Olin, with Pastor Pat Slater officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lahey Funeral Home, Olin, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be held in Olin Cemetery, Olin, Iowa.
Henry A. “Hank” Weseman was born Sept. 21, 1916, near Martelle, Iowa, son of August and Olga (Robenstein) Weseman. He attended school at Martelle, where he played basketball and baseball. He married Arlene Zimmer on Sept. 30, 1939, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She died on June 30, 2000.
The couple started farming in 1940, north of Olin, and continued to reside in the area until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1993. Henry was active in the local 4-H Club with his sons, serving on the county 4-H club committee,
and as a club leader. He also served several years on the Olin school board, was a member of the United Methodist Church in Olin, and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge Ancient Landmark #200. For many years, “Hank” was an area livestock dealer and a member of the Jones County Beef Producers. Henry and Arlene traveled to Arizona each winter for 17 years, and to Europe and Hawaii.
Henry is survived by one son, Michael Weseman of Cedar Rapids; former daughter-in-law, Karen Weseman of Marion; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; son, James Jurgensen; daughter-in-law, Nancy; his parents; brother, Leo Weseman; and sisters, Caroline Wolfe and Stella Holcomb.
